Terms of Service

Last updated: 20 September 2026 · The State Club

1. Acceptance

By downloading, installing, or using The State Club mobile application and related services (together, the “Service”), you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live, and you must comply with Apple’s App Store terms that apply to you.

2. The Service

The State Club helps you limit distracting apps and websites on your iPhone using Apple’s Screen Time / Family Controls APIs (on-device shields) and an optional physical NFC fob as an unlock key.

The State Club is not a full-device lockdown, parental-control suite, or medical/mental-health treatment. We do not guarantee you will meet any personal productivity goals.

3. Accounts and Sign in with Apple

You create an account with Sign in with Apple. You are responsible for the Apple ID you use and for activity under your The State Club session. Keep your device and Apple ID secure. Notify us if you believe your account was compromised.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the Service, including attempting to reverse opaque Screen Time tokens, interfere with other users, probe or attack our systems, or use the Service in violation of law or Apple’s rules.

5. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and why. In particular, The State Club is designed so we do not learn which real-world apps you block: selections stay opaque on device, and server-side stats are built from lock sessions and hashed tokens—not per-app usage dashboards.

6. Push notifications

If you enable notifications, we may send optional pushes (for example about locks or reminders) via Apple Push Notification service / Firebase Cloud Messaging. You can mute them in the app or in iOS Settings; muting in-app clears our stored push token for that device.

7. Fees

The Service may be free or paid depending on the offer shown in the App Store. Purchases are handled by Apple; their refund and subscription rules apply.

8. Account deletion

You can request deletion of your The State Club account from in-app Settings (or contact us). We will delete or anonymize personal data we control as described in the Privacy Policy, subject to legal retention needs.

9. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation, or that shields will work if Apple changes platform APIs, or if you revoke Screen Time permission, delete the app, or lose your fob.

10. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE STATE CLUB AND ITS OPERATORS ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR (B) EUR 50.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (including mandatory consumer protections).

11. Changes

We may update these Terms. We will post the new version here and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance, except where law requires a different process.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts of the Netherlands have jurisdiction, without prejudice to mandatory consumer venue rights you may have where you live.
